How-To: Use the ChatGPT “Generate” Function to Create Ad Copy
The ChatGPT “Generate” function in Alli helps streamline the process of creating ad copy. Whether you need inspiration or ready-to-use text, this feature allows you to generate headlines, descriptions, and other assets tailored to your campaigns.
Step 1: Access the Generate Function
Navigate to the Edit Version page for the version you’re working on.
Locate the Generate button on the top right.
Step 2: Configure the AI Model
Add keywords that reflect the campaign’s focus (e.g., “Spring Sale,” “50% Off”).
Use the Extra Prompt field to give additional context, such as tone or audience (e.g., “Energetic and youthful for Gen Z shoppers”).
Adjust any settings for the AI model to refine your output, if applicable.
Step 3: Generate Ad Copy
Click the Generate button to create new ad copy options.
The AI will use examples from previous versions in the same Asset Group to maintain consistency with your brand voice.
Step 4: Review and Edit
Review the generated copy to ensure it aligns with your goals and tone.
Make any necessary adjustments directly in the text fields.
Step 5: Apply the Ad Copy
Once satisfied, click Save to finalize the version with the newly generated copy.
Best Practices
Provide Clear Context: Use keywords and the extra prompt field to guide the AI in generating relevant and high-quality copy.
Test and Learn: Generated content may not be perfect; refine and test variations to identify what resonates best with your audience.
Cost of Generation: Each use of the Generate function incurs a cost (approximately $0.10–$1 per generation). Use this feature wisely.
Legal Considerations: Review PMG’s AI policies to ensure generated copy complies with legal and brand guidelines.
FAQs
Was the Legal Team involved?
Yes, we have approval from PMG’s Legal department to use OpenAI for generative content. For more details, including access to the OpenAI x PMG contract, you can contact the legal team via the #legal Slack channel.
Is my data being used by just my client or is it being used to power the model for other clients?
Your data is only leveraged by your client within Alli. Each client can only access its own Performance Max version history as the learning model for the brand. Alli will never share your version history or data across clients within the platform.
How is my data being used by OpenAI?
Your data is solely leveraged for training within Alli for Google Performance Max. PMG has opted out of OpenAI’s general data training model, ensuring your data is not shared externally or used to train other models outside of the organization.
Can I or should I use the generated copy in my Performance Max campaigns or other campaigns?
PMG’s POV recommends a test-and-learn approach to generative AI usage. While generative AI offers exciting possibilities, legal and copyright implications for AI-generated content in commercial campaigns remain unclear. For full details, refer to PMG’s Generative AI POV.
